Privacy Policy

Overview

Lingoora is a real-time voice translation app. This page explains what data the app handles, why, and how it's used. We built Lingoora to do one job — translate a conversation between two languages — and we try to collect no more than that job requires.

Your speech and text are sent to our AI providers, OpenAI and xAI, to transcribe, translate, and speak translations aloud. No accounts, no ads. Conversation history stays on your phone.

When product analytics are on, Lingoora sends pseudonymous usage, performance, and crash data to PostHog so we can improve the app. Conversation audio, transcripts, translations, and anything you type are never included. You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings → Share usage analytics.

What Lingoora processes

• Microphone audio. When you tap the microphone (or use auto mode), Lingoora records your voice and sends that audio clip to our server, which forwards it to our AI providers to produce a text transcript. The audio itself is not stored after transcription completes.
• Translated text. The transcript is sent to our AI providers to produce a translation, which is returned to your device.
• Spoken translations. To play a translation aloud in a natural voice, the translated text is sent to our AI providers to generate an audio clip that's played on your device. If that isn't available, or you've used up your natural-voice minutes, your device's built-in voice reads it instead, and that step happens on your device.

These requests pass through our own backend (built on Supabase Edge Functions) purely to keep our API credentials off your device — that backend does not log or persist your audio or conversation content.

What stays on your device

Your conversation history, starred phrases, and app settings (like your chosen languages and voice preferences) are stored locally on your device. If analytics are on, the app also sends the language codes and voice settings you use to PostHog, as described under "Product analytics and crash reports," but never your conversations. We don't operate a user account system, and we don't have a copy of your conversation history on our servers. If you delete the app, that history is gone.

Product analytics and crash reports

We use PostHog to understand how the app is used, to measure how quickly translations come back, and to find and fix crashes. When analytics are on, the app sends:

• Usage events. Which screens you open, taps on app buttons and controls, when the app opens or closes, and steps such as starting and finishing setup, completing a translation, changing or swapping languages, turning Auto mode on or off, and changing the voice engine.
• Language and voice choices. The language codes you translate between (for example, "en" and "es"), the language you chose during setup, and the voice engine and mode used. This tells us which languages people use. It never includes what was said.
• Performance timings. How long recording, uploading, our server's response, and the start of spoken playback took for each translation, and whether it had to be retried.
• Plan and purchase events. When the upgrade screen is shown and why (for example, after reaching the free limit), when you tap to upgrade, and when you buy or restore Lingoora Plus, including which plan (Weekly or Yearly). Apple handles payment. We never receive your card or Apple Account details.
• Crash and error reports. The type of error, where in the app's code it happened (a stack trace), and the app and device details at the time. We remove conversation text from these reports before they're sent.
• App and device details. App version, build number, and release channel (for example, TestFlight or App Store); device model and manufacturer; operating system and version; screen size; a session ID; and a random analytics ID that's stored on your device until you reinstall the app.

This data is pseudonymous: it isn't linked to your name or email, and we don't use it to identify you. Analytics and crash reports never include your conversation audio, transcripts, translations, or anything you type.

Your IP address. Like any internet service, PostHog receives your device's IP address when the app sends it data. We've set PostHog to discard IP addresses instead of storing them with analytics events, and the app tells PostHog not to work out your location. PostHog processes this data in the United States.

How long we keep it. We use analytics and crash data for up to about 1 year. After that, we no longer use it, and it's deleted on our analytics provider's schedule. To ask us to delete your analytics data sooner, email [email protected]. Because this data isn't linked to your name or email, we may ask for a few details from your device to find it.

Turning analytics off. You can turn product analytics off at any time in Settings → Share usage analytics. When you turn it off, the app sends one final event recording that choice, then stops sending analytics and crash reports from that device. If you're in the European Union or the United Kingdom, analytics are off until you turn them on. Everywhere else, they're on by default. If you reinstall the app, it starts with a new analytics ID and the default setting for your region.

We don't use analytics for advertising, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Third-party services

Lingoora relies on the following third parties to function:

• xAI — speech-to-text (our main transcription service) and text-to-speech (natural voices). Audio and text you send through Lingoora are subject to xAI's own privacy policy.
• OpenAI — translation, plus backup speech-to-text and text-to-speech when xAI isn't available or the spoken language is unclear. In those cases the same audio clip may be sent to both xAI and OpenAI. Audio and text you send through Lingoora are subject to OpenAI's own privacy policy.
• Supabase — hosts the backend functions that relay requests to our AI providers. See Supabase's privacy policy.
• Apple — the App Store, TestFlight, in-app purchases of Lingoora Plus, and any on-device speech features are subject to Apple's own privacy practices. Apple processes your payment; we receive only confirmation of which plan you bought or restored.
• PostHog — product analytics, performance measurement, and crash reporting, as described above. This never includes your conversation audio, transcripts, translations, or anything you type. Subject to PostHog's privacy policy.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your data.
• We don't show ads or use advertising trackers.
• We don't require an account, so we don't collect your name, email, or contacts unless you email us directly.

Permissions

Lingoora asks for microphone access to record your speech for translation. You can revoke this at any time in your device's Settings, though the app won't be able to translate speech without it.

Changes to this policy

If how Lingoora handles data changes meaningfully, we'll update this page and change the effective date above.
